SE Stout 1x9 conversion

So, I've added:

My Juicy 5 brakes / discs
(need to fab a special bracket to allow the wheel to come straight off without loosening the caliper)

A new M29 Air Fork (highly recommend- great value)

Sram x7 Rear Der

Sram x9 Shifter

Jump Stop / Bashguard

Already wishing I had invested in the 12-36 cassette...Oh well maybe next year.

All ready for the Fat Tire 40 in Sept!

  1. Hey there, I have a quick question for you...so I am going to convert my 2010 SE Stout to 1x9 as well. You say you wish you had invested in the 12-36 cassette. DId you go with a 11-34? Also, is the cassette Sram or Shimano?

  2. Yea, I had a 11-34. I just wish I had a little more torque going up some of the more steep hills. I eventually did replace it- the 11-34 was sram and the 12-36 was shimano- both worked fine. I prefer the 12-36 with the 29er, but of course that cost quite a bit more. The biggest pain changing the rear tire- with the discs you actually have to take the caliper off....at least I did with the juicy setup. Hope that helps, Later -Jim

  3. yes, that helps me very much. I just spec'd everything out on eBay last night and it looks like I can go to a 1x9 for $237.00 total. Choosing the right cassette was what I was have an issue with. I love the feel of the bike but at 45 years old and the knees do not like the single speed as much as it used to. Thanks again for the reply. It is much appreciated.
