CNC design

this is a cnc machine design I found online by "blurry customs".  It is a little expensive if purchases thru bc.  I love the well engineered beautiful simplicity of this machine's design- its primarily constructed of aluminum plate and extrusion.  I think I could make this without too much trouble- minus the auto bit change feature.

fab methods- working out some details

option 1: the wrapping clip- relates to the connection back to the framing
I think I prefer this one

option 2:  the spring connection- a little more subtle?  occurs between the two layers of fiberglass mesh

changes: a more delicate connection back to the main framing wrapping the steel structure.  An additional layer of fiberglass mesh to hide the cables.  The cables will make a truss when combined with the wood vertical member- allowing for the light connection back to the main structure (the main forces now being shear only....in theory).  The glass will be attached to the back of the wood members in a shingled fashion.  We still want to play with the glass finishes to see where we can go with that........clock is ticking.

model: steel backup structure (green in the model), aluminum clips (cnc'd from stock), painted fiberglass mesh for vertical shading devices, wood for vertical supports, .125" plexi for glazing

art of detailing

my latest revision for the art of detailing project - I plan on making this out of wood and aluminum.  I would like to use a mahogany but cedar is my fall back.  The aluminum will be milled, sand blasted, then polished- I really liked this finish on the some test pieces I did.  Going to start buying materials today!  Can't wait!

spaceframe - full parametric adjustability

all points are on the face of a sphere - radius adjustable in grasshopper

six segments- each internally symmetrical

first and second layers of framing
these couple actuators show more connections between first two layers

skewed connection- used to join rings with differing numbers of actuators
